Jacob Speier immigrated to the United States in 1848. He traveled aboard the Juniatta, which embarked at Antwerp, Belgium, and arrived at the Port of New York on 22 May 1848. He settled in Louisville, KY, where he worked as a tailor. He made uniforms for both Union and Confederate officers during the Civil War. Jacob Speier was naturalized as a U. S. citizen in 1854 in Louisville, KY (court record missing).
Catharine Louise Charlotte Degener, widow of Peter Eckmeier, had a young son when she married Jacob Speier in 1850. Gerhard Henry Degener was reared by Jacob Speier after Catharine Speier’s death. Jacob and Catharine Speier did not have children.
Anne Cathrine Henriette Eggemann immigrated to the United States in 1854. She traveled aboard the Adele, which embarked at Bremen, Germany, and arrived at the Port of New York on 22 May 1854.
William Henry Speier was murdered after intervening in a domestic dispute on Towhead Island in 1905.
William Carl Speier died from injuries received when he was struck by a street car as he was crossing the intersection of Preston and Lampton Streets.
