Notes:
Richard Purtee worked as a farmer in Meigs Township of Adams County, OH, until 1844, when he and his family moved to Clay Township of Highland County, OH. The family moved near Wallace Mills in Madison Township of Scioto County, OH, about 1847.
John Purtee served with Company A, 39th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in the Civil War in 1864. On 22 Jul 1864, he was severely wounded in the leg in a skirmish between Union troops and the Army of Tennessee near Decatur, GA. The 39th Ohio Volunteer Infantry suffered one-third casualties in that battle. John Purtee died in a field hospital at Marietta, GA, about two months after his leg was amputated.
